New approches to the history of commercial justice/Litiges commerciaux dans l’histoire : nouvelles approaches
Merchant courts and merchants’ strategies before the courts have been studied extensively up to date by both historians of law and economic and social historians. However, given the specialisation of historians, the studies tend to have either a legal and administrative, or an economic and social focus.
The workshop will gather historians and legal historians to discuss recent research and new methodological approaches to the study of commercial justice from the Middle Ages to the Nineteenth Century. The aim is to establish an overview of the current research and to discuss the possibilities of combining both organizational and actor-centred perspectives in the study of commercial litigations.
The languages of the workshop are English and French.

Les tribunaux de commerce et les stratégies des commerçants devant les tribunaux forment, déjà depuis un long temps, un champ d’études répandu par les historiens du droit et par les spécialistes de l’histoire économique et sociale. Toutefois, vu la spécialisation des historiens, les études tendent se focaliser soit sur le cadre juridique et administratif, soit sur le cadre économique et sociale.
L’atelier réunira des historiens et des historiens du droit pour discuter des recherches récentes et des nouvelles approches méthodologiques pour l’étude de la justice commerciale du Moyen Age au XIXe siècle. L’objectif est de donner un aperçu de la recherche actuelle, et de discuter à partir de ceci, les possibilités de combiner les perspectives organisationnelles et acteur-centrées dans l’étude des litiges commerciaux.
Les langues de l’atelier sont l’anglais et le français.
